Velvet and Burlap Holiday Sentiments ~

Love the combination of Velvet & Burlap! And this little holiday sentiment…is dreamy indeed…especially now…that a light dusting of first holiday snow has me dreaming of a ‘White Christmas’… Thought you might like to create a few of these…and here’s how!

I started…by cutting out…the simple burlap banners (just freehand it!)…my talented sister, Linda…stitched the edges to prevent raveling. A velvet remnant makes for nice straps (Linda sewed together a simple lining fabric for backing)…The letters are Edwardian font…printed in mirror image …onto transfer paper. (Thank you to my brother-in-law Ron!  He created and reversed the lettering for me!) I ironed the letters on canvas…and glued that fabric to the burlap banner. The canvas is edged in gorgeous brown pleated velvet ribbon…just the ruffled detail I was looking for!

The banner hangs on a wooden spindle ornament….from hemp twine…(so fun!)

Thought it could use…a bit of French Blue bling…so I added this fantastic feathery tinsel garland from Anthropologie!

Magical isn’t it?

Now…I couldn’t just stop at Dream…because this year’s little holiday motto...is Wish…Dream…Believe’...So the ‘Wish’ banner is done…and I’m whipping up a wired burlap ribbon garland…for Believe’....can’t wait to show you!

Ciao,

Monica
