It’s baking day and I’m doing DONUTS!
Exotic, artisanal donuts! These donuts are baked not fried! So good and so easy!
I went with a very basic baked recipe and really spiced it up with the
exotic, floral, menthol and honey sweet taste of cardamom,
hearkening back to my half swedish roots. Then I warmed things up even
more with cinnamon and vanilla bean and dipped the
baked goodness into a cinnamon citrus glaze.
Pink grapefruit is my citrus of choice right now. I’m making these tasty treats
for dessert at
my next little gathering. Hope you do too!
The Goods:
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup vanilla sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 a teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
dash of salt
1 egg
1 vanilla bean scraped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter (unsalted & melted)
1 1/4 cups milk (preferably whole)
The Glaze:
1/2 c powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1-2 tsp Half & Half
zest of half a grape fruit and a splash of the freshly squeezed juice
The Method:
Sift together the dry ingredients in one bowl and
whisk together the wet ingredients including the vanilla bean, in another. Lightly fold together the contents of
the two bowls and spoon the batter into a greased donut pan. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
whisk together the glaze and dip one side of the donuts.
Enjoy!
