La Storia ~
I am SO excited to learn that OUR kitchen will be featured in the gorgeous national publication ~ ‘Beautiful Kitchens‘ ~ I’m already making the ‘to do’ list (do you make those lists?) for our July photo shoot! What an honor! Sweet!
And…sometimes…things in life…come full circle…This is one of those times for me! And I confirmed the facts this morning! Once a news reporter….always a news reporter!
In 1998…When my husband and I first planted the seed of thought…for a move from our Woodinville home…I started an ‘Inspiration file’…Do you do that? Anyway, there was an article in Traditional Home Magazine which featured this gorgeous, classic, kitchen…that I simply fell in love with. After some digging…I found the old article!
I loved the ‘Manor House’ feel, the contrasting colors (I’ve always loved black and off white)…the stainless appliances…glass front cabinets…all of it. I thought if I could have ANY kitchen…it would be this!
Fast forward to 2003…we sold two homes (one on Puget Sound)…to purchase a home…on a lot …on the lake! We would technically ‘remodel’ the existing house….taking it down to the studs and adding on nearly 4,000 square feet! I worked with our architect to design the layout…and became the contractor and full time designer before the ‘hardscape’ and sheet rock ever went in. So the kitchen design was up to me…and I used the article I saved back in ’98, as inspiration!
I was delighted, that around the same time, my ‘inspiration kitchen’ reappeared in a 2003 article in Beautiful Interiors…the Designer ~ Michael Berman…( he pulled it together in 10 weeks for a showhouse!) I would take these pages with me…when searching for everything from stone, to paint samples to cabinet knobs….to newel posts! The two kitchens are actually quite different…but it was the ‘feel’… that I loved so much! I used to joke, that I wanted to build a ‘European Country Manor Home’….in Juanita!
Fast Forward ~ I was approached about a possible article on our kitchen for a national magazine…a scouting photo shoot ensued…and now, two months later, I learn that OUR kitchen will be featured in the ‘Beautiful Group‘ publication…’Beautiful Kitchens’…the publication with the ‘inspirational Kitchen’ I first laid eyes on…and dreamed about…more than a decade ago! So Cool….So grateful…So psyched! Thank you Bonnie and Beautiful Kitchens!
I’ll keep you posted.
Ciao,
Monica

Your kitchen is fabulous. I am in the middle of whole kitchen makeover and your kitchen is in my inspiration book.
BTW, I love your counter stool (for Island). I am looking for exact same stool. Where did you find them? Thanks bunch!
Thank you for visiting the blog page! I found these stools several years ago in the magazine Front Gate…Might still be availabe on line. Good luck with your kitchen! Let me know if I can help! Monica
I read your article in Beautiful Kitchens and was inspired by your wonderful kitchen! I love the medallion above your stove. The article mentioned Enkeball Designs, but I could not find the one pictured. Please share the design you used.
Thank you,
Gwen
Hi Gwen, Thank you for reading the post! ! I just found the medallions! Please go to the Enkeboll site…click on ‘Products’ ~ ‘Rosettes’ ~ ‘Ancanthus’ and you should see them!

Let me know if you still can’t locate it! Monica
Dear Monica,
Yes, I did find the medallion. However, my mistake in describing what caught my eye…it is the frame on the back wall above your cook surface. I was under the impression that framed impression came from Enkeboll. Did you design this or purchase. If purchased, please share.
Thanks,
Gwen
Hi Gwen, The Stone medallion is made by Walker Zanger…it is two pieces…I framed it with two rows of glass 1 x 1 tiles…and travertine moulding. We have three medallions in our home…all different..but I love them! Go to the Walker Zanger site click on…

Hi Monica,
Unfortunately Frontgate doesn’t have same stools any more. Ones they have is pretty large (18 and 19″ diameter) and I was looking for something around 16″ or so. What is diameter of your stool? are your seats real leather? I searched other bar stool sites and I can only find vinyl seats. I am a little doubtful about the quality of those stools at different sites. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Hi Sue,
Our stools are 16” in diameter and real leather. They were not expensive…but we purchased them 8 years ago…and they have survived many assaults by little boys! Love leather for that! Other sites to try…’Napa Style’..has a nice 16” in leather (like these!) Horchow ~ has really nice stools, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware. Let me know if you need anymore help…and I am honored to be in you ‘makeover book!’ Monica
Thanks for your help, Monica. I will look into your suggestions.
