Monica Hart La Famiglia Design ~ in the Garden
Lush!
That’s the word to
describe our
new raised garden bed!
Remember, the space began as a blank
garden slate,
and was transformed by a
graceful design, in
craftsman’s hands.
(Thank you Wayne & Randy!)
Measuring just 10′ x 4’…It’s not large by any means… but it
lives large and here’s why…curves, finials and
accoutrements! Once the shell was finished,
I began planting a few small starts. Then I layered in the fun little
pieces that add personality & charm…
Like this inexpensive rattan pendant light, dangling from
a shepherd’s hook.
Do you love it?
It adds just the French
flair I was looking for, as does a petite
Boxwood ‘J’ for Jardinière!
I tucked in more plants and in a few short weeks, well, take a look,
it’s a jungle out there!
Now the strawberries are starting to
spill over the graceful curve,
just as I had hoped, the pumpkin plants (my favorite) are getting
ready to bust out of bed and ramble across the waterfront and
the sweet peas are daintily
climbing the shepherd’s hook. I love that the pendant light, is now
holding court over the lush growth and
the ball finials are cloaked in
green. We’re already dining on mixed greens
nightly.
And take a look at the
Brussels sprouts leaves, with their
impressive plum veining…so pretty, I don’t even care if we get a single sprout!
And don’t even get me started on the basil, peppers and tomatoes! Can’t wait for those to mature!
I tucked in a few more garden furnishings…A wood obelisk rises out of the bed
and there are cloches, in interesting shapes & materials.
I love this one with the rustic, twisted metal
top and another made of …
glass. Love the verdigris container for our garden hose too!
I don’t know if it’s the confines of the
raised bed or the rich, organic, living
South Bay soil…but our plants are
thriving! Then again, maybe something more soulful is at work. Do you see it?
The worn photograph hanging from the espalier?
That’s our Grandpa Paul, in his Seattle garden, back in the day with my
big brother Bob in tow. My gardening guardians…how cool is that!
Will you build a raised garden bed?
unbelievable!
Thank you Cindy!
Wow, incredible! I want one for my backyard!! xo
I’m sure your Grandpa Paul is smiling with great satisfaction. Love that you’ve made him a special part of your creation!
