Vintage Vibe ~
It’s day two, for me…at the 2013 NW Flower & Garden Show’s
Silver Screen blockbuster and I’m going
shopping! Somewhere beyond ‘OZ’ and the river that runs through it…
in the far back corner…
a dozen or so, rusty & ‘chippy’ little booths are
causing quite a
commotion. Everyone it seems, is talking…about
the first ever Vintage Market, at the
garden show, where time worn is the norm and
re-purpose is the new normal.
Just so ya know, I love me some Vintage!
I put on my reporter’s hat and with I-phone rolling, I
struck up some inspired vintage conversation with the
ladies of Snohomish.
Tamara, (in the middle) from the The Vintage Nest and Debi from Garden Party were
gracious enough to take me inside their worn world and pose for a pic.
Thank you girls!
Tamara calls herself, a ‘Vintage Pirate’…going on treasure
hunts several times a year. She believes vintage, is
the ultimate in going green!
Debi meanwhile, says vintage pieces bring soul into your surroundings and that
the possibilities for working them into the garden are endless. Couldn’t
agree more!
Kimberly, of Faded Elegance digs that
each pieces is unique, loaded with
history and unabashedly admits, she is in love with
rust.
I asked the ladies, if they might share some tips on giving your
garden that vintage vibe.
First, inspired garden containers!!!
~ Try rusty wagons brimming with plants & moss
~ Suitcases! Cut a hole in the top,
pop in a waterproof container & plant!
~ Use old plates to edge the garden
~ Flank a garden window with vintage shutters
~ Turn old pickets into lovely supports…for your roses
~ Use anything galvanized…
rusty or chippy!
Love this entertaining idea…
~ Vintage industrial carts, re-purposed into an outdoor bar!
(So going there!)
~ Bring vintage chandeliers outdoors
~ Tucking anything under glass…especially in the old gardoon!
And here’s the thing…re-purposing worn old pieces,
using them in new ways…gives your garden a one of a kind, soulful,
Vintage Flair. No wonder everyone is talking…
So go ahead, add a little vintage vibe to your garden…
think outside…
the suitcase!
Keep your vintage on girl! Wish I were there!
